Cancer sickens your language
Society awareness | Filming | Directing
This was one of my favorite projects of 2014-2015. We were tasked to make a commercial like SIRE (Stichting Ideële Reclame/Idealistic Commercial Foundation) does. This meant making a commercial based on a problem in our society. The problem I chose was the frequent use of the word "cancer" in the Dutch language as a swearword. This can deeply hurt people who have someone in their environment who is suffering or died from cancer. The operation "Cancer Sickens Your Language" already existed and I decided to elaborate on this and make the commercial below. |

I imagined a guy getting angry for an insignificant reason and starting to shout cancer at the cause of his irritation. This person, the girl, would be drawn into a flashback to her late sister who died because of cancer recently.
Casting: Julia Verhees - The flashback girl Juul Sengers - Julia's sister Emma Sprengers - Julia's friend Dylan Duijmelink - Cursing guy Tom and Max Sengers, Casper Cox - Footballing guys |
